We just stopped in Sportello for a late lunch per Kim’s astute suggestion, and this place is nailing it.
I’m a big fan of simple menu, and these folks have it down. Serving rich, Italian classics, but somehow free of the weightiness associated with old world cuisine.
I unknowingly selected their flagship dish- the potato gnocchi. This is a permanent choice on the menu, and for good reason. It’s the most perfect of it’s like, that I’ve experienced.
Kim had the salad, featuring heirloom tomatoes and peaches. We were especially blown away by the latter. Our server, Ethan mentioned that this salad tastes “just like summer.” I can’t describe it any better.
Sportello has a great, minimalist vibe that is much more common outside the US, but has been gaining popularity in recent years. For the love of god, it’s about time. I appreciate a good aesthetic, being an indicator of the care taken with the actual food, and not just generic pretension.
Cheers Sportello! See you next time.
It’s 4pm and Drink just opened, so we’re heading downstairs.
